December 15, 1929 - October 24, 2023
Emanuel (Manny) Harkins born December 15, 1929, in Landenberg, PA, to George and Lillian Harkins passed away on October 24th, 2023. After serving in the Army and Army Reserves from 1949-1951 he enjoyed a long career with the DuPont Company Textile area, retiring in the early 1990s. Manny was a lifetime member of the Cranston Heights Fire Company plus presiding as President from 1955-1971.In 1967 he served as president of the Delaware Volunteer Firefighter’s Association. In his younger years, crabbing and boating were a big part of Manny’s free time. He loved and enjoyed caring for his lawn as well as the lawn next door.
Manny is survived by Diane Harkins Furlong of Peekskill NY, Debbie Harkins (Steve) of Rehoboth, Doris Reynolds (Bob) of Hockessin, and Roy Jarrell (Lori) of Wilmington; grandchildren who gratefully provided care: Doug Blevins (Lisa-deceased,) Debra Ambrose, Donna Blevins Tidwell (Tim) and Barbara Reynolds (Steve); several other grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Thelma; his stepdaughter, Darlene; his parents; and 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
A visitation will be held Thursday, November 16, 2023, from 11 AM – 12 Noon at Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702 followed by a celebration of Manny’s life at 12 Noon. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to VITAS Hospice https://vitascommunityconnection.org/ or Cranston Heights Fire Company, https://www.chfc14.com/page/donations.
